All the walls and fences you can make can be destroyed by zombies. You can change this in the sandbox settings though. Log walls are tough but very resource expensive costing 4 logs, and are able to be made at 0 carpentry. Log wall if you don't have much carpentry but level 3 plank wall are way better. I have lvl 9 carpentry and my guy’s log walls keep getting broken. His plank ones stay up. If I remember correctly, log walls are stronger at low levels of carpentry, but as you get higher the plank walls surpass them. I don't think the difference is ever too massive, but once you get carpentry up it's probably a smart idea to start making proper walls due to material usage, unless you literally have a forest directly next to where you're building, maybe.
